The Hillside Ventnor brand was expanding by opening a new Bistro and accommodation in the heart of town that would
join the original hotel and restaurant as entities in the Hillside Company, I was commissioned to create a new identity
that both showed the Bistro as an individual entity and as part of something bigger. The logotype reflects the brand
but also creates a strong identity of its own, with a personal and human finish. The design was printed onto white oval
signs to correspond the Hillside house style as well as being cut into sheet metal to add a contemporary flare to the brand.
I was lucky enough to receive this brief as my first commercial design project before enrolling in University. The project gave me a real insight into how a brand was so much more than a logo and ignited my passion for designing identities.
The logo went through many iterations before becoming what you see today, the brief became really interesting when it came to the application for signage, printed materials and usage online. We were able to build upon a pre-existing website and add new functionality which encompassed the new entities within the Hillside brand.
